  for Original Play Programs

Time Required for Program:  An Original Play program is best experienced in an atmosphere that is conducive to open discussion and experiential learning.  For this reason it is suggested that at least 90 minutes be allotted for the program.

Teaching Methodologies Used:  Original Play incorporates cognitive, affective and sensory-motor learning.  A brief lecture, interactive group exercises, and TV/VCR or Powerpoint examples are used in this process.  Questions from participants and group discussion are encouraged throughout the program.

Program Learning Objectives:

  1. Learn helpful practices to use when responding to a variety of challenging situations
  2. Identify the differences between responding to others using power, force and conflict as compared with responses of kindness, clarity and safety
  3. Review ways to include this model in work roles and daily living
  4. Explore issues, challenges and strategies for practicing Original Play within the needs and framework of your organization

Room Requirements:  A clean, open carpeted room provides the most inviting atmosphere for a program.  The hands-on exercises used in programs require open physical space to promote comfort and safety.  Chairs in the room can be placed along the walls facing the center of the room.

Audio/Visual Requirements:  A TV/VCR or Powerpoint projector, flipchart and podium are required for programs.  A cordless microphone is also required for groups larger than fifty.

Audience Involvement:  Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing to the program, to ask questions throughout the program and to participate to their level of comfort.

Program Feedback:  Program feedback sheets are distributed and collected following the program to measure learning outcomes.  The results of the feedback are tabulated and sent in a report to the sponsoring organization.
